Part 3:Steve and Kate Gear Up for a Getaway
You know that time of the year when Christmas is a distant memory, summer’s fading fast and weekends just seem to fly? Yep, Steve and I have been feeling it big time over the past few weeks. Even with the occasional treats we’ve purchased using the money I get paid to do surveys. He’s six months into a promotion and has been working harder than ever, and I’ve just taken on a class of cheeky year fives who are super cute but sometimes drive me a little bit crazy. So when he suggested we both take a few days off work to fabricate a personal long weekend for ourselves, I couldn’t have jumped on the bandwagon faster.
Exploring the best of the backyard
A tropical getaway in Fiji is definitely on my radar, and I know Steve is just itching to hit up the snowboarding slopes in Japan, but for now our budget and calendar just don’t align with that kind of getaway. Thankfully, we live on a pretty incredible island where we’re spoilt for ‘close to home’ options.
We’re going west, where the skies are blue…
As much as we love our hometown of Melbourne, Victoria isn’t famous for its weather. In fact, in the lead up to winter it can be downright miserable. I did use some of my free surveys for cash rewards to purchase a tent on Amazon, but the thought of camping in the rain is dreadful. Luckily Steve’s a whiz when it comes to tracking down flight deals, so I tasked him with the job of scoring us cheap return tickets to a sunny destination of his choice. He more than delivered, and snapped up an amazing Melbourne to Perth return itinerary for under $200 each. I knew I married the guy for a reason!
Cue full swing holiday prep mode
The next day I hit up Dymocks and used my cash surveys rewards to buy Lonely Planet’s West Coast Australia guidebook. With just five days we’re limiting ourselves to Margaret River, and I can’t tear myself away from promises of boutique wineries, artisan cheese, fresh produce and of course, stunning beaches. Steve’s also hung up on the craft brewery scene, and already has a lengthy list of places he wants to visit.
From A to B
At around four hours south of Perth city, we’re going to need a set of wheels to whisk ourselves away to the Margaret River region. When I first realised this I was a little dismayed, as car hire’s not always a cheap option. But when Steve piped up and suggested checking whether I could do surveys for money and cash in the points for car hire, I was pretty impressed. Hertz rental car with an airport pickup? Yes please. Plus, I’ve already downloaded a heap of new road trips songs, courtesy of an iTunes voucher I purchased with my online surveys Australia cash.
Did I mention Steve is a bit of a surf nut? Well it just so happens that West Australia’s South West is home to some of the best waves on the planet. As an amateur photographer and doting wife, I’ve wanted to capture Steve in action for ages. So with a handful of surveys for rewards points to spare, I traded them in for a Harvey Norman paid surveys gift voucher. One transaction later and I’m the proud owner of a shiny new Canon point and shoot. Steve used the OpinionWorld PayPal feature to stock up on surf wax from his favourite online retailer, I splashed out on a new bikini using a Myer voucher I earned getting paid for surveys online, and we’re now good to go. Bring on the Margaret River mini break!
